NEWS CONFERENCE THIS AFTERNOON (FRIDAY, NOV. 15)--Undergraduate
Student Government has scheduled a news conference at 4 p.m. today at the 
Office of Student Life, 33 W. 11th Ave., to discuss the passage of House Bill 
477.  The bill, sponsored by Rep. Amy Salerno, grants full voting privileges 
to student trustees at Ohio's 13 public universities.  The bill will die in 
the legislature this session because of lack of time to get it on the Senate 
agenda. However, the House passage is seen as a major step forward for the

STUDENTS CELEBRATE BUCKEYE SPIRIT WITH WEEK OF ACTIVITIES--Nov. 18-24.  The 
week before the Michigan game offers many ways to celebrate Buckeye Spirit.  
At the student unions, there is live music, movies and a window decorating 
contest.  Among the activities: 
  Friday, Nov. 15.  Canned food drive begins. Two student activity offices 
have joined to distribute bags to students in the area east of High Street 
between 10th and Woodruff  for Fill-Up the food pantries drive.  Students 
are asked to fill the bags with canned foods and put them outside on 
Thursday, Nov. 21, when volunteers from Student Organization Services will 
pick them up. 
  Monday, Nov. 18.  Banner Competition begins.  Students living east of High 
St. and in the Greek community will design and fly banners all week in 
support of the football team and OSU.  Banners will be judged on Friday, 
Nov. 22.  Winners will be announced on the scoreboard during the football 
game.
  Friday, Nov. 22.  Senior tackle, Pep Rally and Bonfire.  Former head 
football coach Earle Bruce is the featured speaker at the senior tackle at 
5 p.m. in Ohio Stadium.  The event features 16 senior football players 
taking one final ceremonial hit at the tackling dummy.  A pep rally and 
bonfire follow in the parking lot of the French Field House.
  Saturday, Nov. 23. 9-11 a.m., Larkins Hall.  Students are invited to 
Pancake the Wolverines at a free breakfast of pancakes and sausages 
sponsored by Bob Evans Restaurants.  The same menu will be featured in the 
campus dining halls.
  9:30 a.m., Spirit Tunnel forms along 15th Avenue between High and Woodruff.  
As the team buses pass by, the public is invited to line the sidewalks and 
cheer the Buckeyes.  Buses are expected to arrive about 9:55 a.m.  Football 
game begins at 12:10 p.m.

CONFERENCE EXAMINES TRANSPORTATION ISSUES --Nov. 19-20.  Transportation: 
Building on 50 Golden Years of Progress is the theme of the 50th annual Ohio 
Transportation Engineering Conference, hosted by Ohio State University and the 
Ohio Department of Transportation at the Greater Columbus Convention Center.  
Sessions start at 9:45 a.m. and focus on bridges, pavement, technology 
transfer, intelligent transportation systems, legislation and research.

LECTURER ADDRESSES AGING ISSUES--Nov. 19.  The Impact of an Aging 
Society...Are We Prepared? is the seventh Annual Midland Lecture, 4 p.m. at 
the Fawcett Center, 2400 Olentangy River Rd., by Bruce Clark, senior vice 
president of Age Wave Health Services. Clark directs several of Age Wave's 
healthcare initiatives, including the Alliance for Healthy Aging, a 
partnership of Searle, Age Wave Health Services, and 60 leading managed care 
organizations. Sponsored by the Midland Life Insurance Company and the College 
of Medicine's Graduate Program in Health Services Management and Policy.

THEATRE PIONEER HONORED--Nov. 19.  Roy H. Bowen, retired professor of theatre, 
will be honored by the Department of  Theatre for his more than 40 years of 
theatrical work in Columbus and elsewhere.    A portrait of Professor Bowen, 
painted by Columbus artist John Crawford, will be unveiled in a 7:30 p.m. 
ceremony in the lobby outside the Stadium II Theatre in Drake Union, 1849 
Cannon Dr., before the OSU  Theatre Company's performance of The Importance of 
Being Earnest.

CONFERENCE LOOKS FOR CAMPUS BINGE DRINKING SOLUTIONS --Nov. 21.  
Representatives from nearly 20 Ohio colleges and universities will hear the 
latest research on campus health problems, including binge drinking, at the 
Get Real Conference, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the Ohio Union, 1739 N. High Street.  
The keynote speaker is Dr. Richard Keeling, director of University Health 
Services and professor of medicine at the University of Wisconsin, who will 
discuss recent research from 9:15-10:15 a.m. in the East Ballroom of the Ohio 
Union.  Afterward, teams from each college will develop plans to control binge 
drinking on their campuses and in their communities.
