Student Leaders To Be Honored May 15

OHIO STATE TO HONOR STUDENT LEADERS ON MAY 15

     COLUMBUS -- Fifty-four Ohio State University student leaders 
will be honored May 15 in the Ohio Union ballrooms, 1739 N. High 
St., during the Celebration of University Leadership.

     Formerly the President's Undergraduate Leadership Awards, 
this annual event honors students who have demonstrated 
leadership and service to the university community. 

     The Kaplan Award will be presented to two students who have 
served Ohio State through efforts to promote intercultural, 
interracial and or interfaith understanding.  The award was 
established in 1960 in honor of Rabbi Harry Kaplan who served as 
director of the B'nai B'rith Hillel Foundation for 35 years. 

     "The Kaplan award is an honor for students who provide a 
moral compass for how a university should operate and serve the 
diverse populations at Ohio State," said Brian Ivory, graduate 
administrative assistant for the Office of Student Organization 
Services and coordinator of the COUL awards.

     The winners will each receive a plaque, leadership medallion 
and a $400 scholarship, and give a speech during the ceremony.

     President Gordon Gee will present the Outstanding Senior 
Award to 12 students who have demonstrated efforts to benefit the 
campus community through academics and leadership service. Each 
student will receive a plaque and leadership medallion.

     Lastly, a presidential citation will be awarded to 40 
student leaders who have served Ohio State through leadership 
through student organizations, campus issues and community 
causes.
