Student Wins NSF Award

PERRYSBURG GRADUATE WINS NATIONAL SCIENCE FOUNDATION AWARD

     COLUMBUS -- Shannon McDonald, a resident of Perrysburg and a 
student at The Ohio State University, has received an award worth 
$1,000 from the National Science Foundation.

     McDonald, an honors student majoring in mathematics and 
chemistry, is a 1994 graduate of Perrysburg High School.  She is 
the daughter of Dave and Sharon Merrit; and Frank and Linda 
McDonald.  McDonald was recognized by the Mathematics Department 
with the National Science Foundation Award for the encouragement 
of outstanding minority students majoring in mathematics.

     The goal of the National Science Foundation award is to 
encourage and recognize outstanding minority students who major 
in math.  

     McDonald's award was the principal feature of the 
department's Mathematics Awareness Week Recognition Ceremony, 
held April 26.  The annual event honored 68 other undergraduate 
students in the department who make exceptional contributions 
above and beyond their academic work.
