Traffic alert: Students move into residence halls on Saturday

Move-in Day at Ohio State is a logistical feat that has amazed thousands of Ohio State families. Nearly 10,000 students live in Ohio State residence halls, and approximately half of them will move in on Saturday (9/21). Students will begin checking in and obtaining their room keys and football tickets at 7 a.m. at the Schottenstein Center.

Once students have their room keys, they are directed to the parking area closest to their residence hall. Their cars are swarmed by Opening Welcome Leaders (OWLs), who have trained hard to use carts (nicknamed elephants and mice) to transport lava lamps, computers and CD players up to student rooms.

Because so many visitors are on campus on Saturday, Ohio State officials strongly discourage motorists from driving through the campus area. Many streets are closed or restricted, and officers will be controlling traffic at major intersections.

WHEN: 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday (9/21).

WHERE: Students check in at the Schottenstein Center and then disburse to one of 28 residence halls.

WHY: Who needs a football game when you can watch OWLS, elephants and mice?
