Trustees: Appointments to Regional Boards

OHIO STATE NAMES TRUSTEES TO REGIONAL CAMPUS BOARDS

     COLUMBUS -- The Ohio State University Board of Trustees 
Thursday (6/6) appointed members to regional boards of trustees 
at Ohio State's Lima, Mansfield, Marion and Newark campuses 
effective July 1.  The board also named a student center at 
Marion and approved construction of an interpretive center at the 
Molly Caren Agricultural Center near London.

     At The Ohio State University-Lima, trustees appointed Kelly 
Richards to a one-year term.  Richards, of Lima, is a junior 
majoring in human resources.  A non-traditional student, she 
formerly worked as an office manager for a union representing 
employees of Sundstrand Corp. in Lima.  

     Reappointed to one-year terms were Jed E. Osborn of Leipsic, 
plant controller at Ball Metal Container Corp. in Findlay; Larry 
E. Ward, a financial consultant from Findlay; and Howard N. 
Watkins Jr., a Kenton area farmer. 

     At The Ohio State University-Mansfield, the board 
reappointed James E. Meyer of Mansfield, president of MedCentral.  
Appointed new trustees were Anne Epperson of Galion, a dental 
hygienist active in raising funds for graduates of Galion High 
School attending the Mansfield campus; and Randy Osler of 
Ontario, Ohio, president of Sprint United Telephone, North 
Central Operations.  All three will serve three-year terms.

     At The Ohio State University-Marion, trustees appointed 
Christopher John Elsasser of Marion, a sophomore majoring in 
political science, as a student member to a one-year term.  
Elsasser works part-time in campus communications and will become 
president of Undergraduate Student Government at Marion July 1.  

     Reappointed to three-year terms were David F. Bacon, an 
Upper Sandusky attorney; Ron Laipply of Marion, owner of 
Laipply's Quickprint and Graphics; and Elaine Merchant of Marion, 
director of human resources for Kable Fulfillment, a division of 
Kable News Services.

     At The Ohio State University-Newark, trustees appointed 
Katheryn M. Lloyd of Granville, a junior majoring in French and 
English, as a student member to a one-year term.  A professional 
horseback rider, Lloyd is a member of the OSU-Newark Honor 
Society and active in the Black Box Theatre on campus.

     Reappointed to three-year terms were Eugene Branstool, a 
family farmer from Utica; Stuart N. Parsons of Newark, assistant 
vice president and trust officer of Park National Bank; and 
Charles F. Sinsabaugh of Newark, a retired family physician.

Marion campus center named for George Alber

     Trustees named the student center at The Ohio State 
University-Marion as The George H. Alber Student Center.  The 
building, at 1463 Mount Vernon Ave., was named after Alber to 
reflect his long-time support of the university and the Marion 
campus since his graduation from Ohio State in 1929.

     Alber has given $600,000 to the Marion campus to establish 
an endowed scholarship fund, construct the Alber Bell Tower and 
to start a business initiative to help economic development in 
Marion and surrounding counties.  Alber also has provided a trust 
that will provide more than $500,000 in annual income in 
perpetuity benefiting the Dorothy and George H. Alber Scholarship 
Fund and a new fund to enhance the Marion campus.

Interpretive center to be built at Molly Caren Ag Center

     Students in soil and water conservation programs and 
visitors to Ohio State's Farm Science Review will benefit from an 
exhibit and interpretive center to be built at the Molly Caren 
Agricultural Center near London.

     The building will be constructed by the Ohio Department of 
Natural Resources (ODNR) at the Gwynne Conservation Area.

     Trustees authorized a 15-year lease with ODNR at a rental 
rate of $1 per year to facilitate construction.  ODNR, through 
its Nature Works bond package, has allocated $150,000 to build 
the facility.

     The building will be used during the Farm Science Review for 
exhibits and during the rest of the year as an interpretive 
center for educational programs and as a meeting center.

     At the end of the lease, Ohio State will acquire the 
building at no cost.  In recognition of ODNR's investment, the 
Farm Science Review will provide maintenance, improved access, 
and electrical service.
