TRUSTEES ACCEPT DEVELOPMENT REPORT, APPROVE APPOINTMENTS

COLUMBUS -- The Ohio State University Board of Trustees on 
Friday (5/1) approved the naming of the new campus home for the 
Alumni Association, accepted nine new named endowed funds, 
renamed an administrative office and approved appointments.

Alumni House named

The board approved naming the new campus home of The Ohio 
State University Alumni Association Inc. The Longaberger Alumni 
House.  The naming reflects a $5 million commitment the 
Longaberger Foundation made to support several areas of the 
university, $2 million of which is designated for construction of 
the new alumni house.

Board accepts nine new named endowed funds

Trustees heard a report from Jerry May, vice president for 
development, on fund-raising efforts.  May reported the 
establishment of nine new named endowed funds with gifts totaling 
more than $292,000:

-- The Hanshumaker Family Fund, $113,270, to provide program 
support and/or scholarships in the Division of Music Education.

-- The International Study Abroad Fund, $17,042, to provide 
study-abroad scholarships for students majoring in international 
studies.

-- The Jutta and Peter Neckermann Study Abroad Scholarship 
Fund, $15,050, to provide scholarships for study abroad in 
Germany.

-- The James R. Miller Agriculture Scholarship Fund, 
$15,000, to provide scholarships in the College of Food, 
Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences.

-- The James V. Warren, M.D. Medical Humanities Fund, 
$15,000, to provide program support for the Health Sciences 
Library.

-- The Lee S. Eagle Athletic Scholarship Fund, $50,000.

-- The Charles and Nancy Sheley Athletic Scholarship Fund, 
$25,409.

-- The Dennis A. and Rolene Oliver Nabors, Jr. Scholarship 
Fund, $25,006, for Department of Athletics scholarships.

-- The Detroit Alumni Scholars Fund, $16,266, to provide 
merit scholarships for graduates of Detroit-area high schools.

Office renamed

Trustees approved changing the name of the Office of 
Technology Transfer to the Office for Technology Licensing, 
effective immediately.  The office was created in 1991 to 
identify, secure, protect and license university-created 
intellectual property.  Because other university units and 
functions of Ohio State are involved in the broad activities of 
transferring technology, the name was changed to better reflect 
the office
