Trustees Honor Pharmacy Student

DEBORAH LANGE RECEIVES STUDENT RECOGNITION AWARD

     COLUMBUS -- Deborah Lange of UPPER ARLINGTON, a senior 
majoring in pharmacy, has won The Ohio State University Board of 
Trustees' Student Recognition Award.  The award was presented 
during the April 3 meeting of the board.

     Lange was honored for her work as chair of the College of 
Pharmacy's Drug Abuse Education Committee, a student organization 
focusing on educating students on drug abuse.  

     A non-traditional student and mother of two boys, ages 13 
and 11, Lange said she returned to school to better herself.

     "I needed a future. As a single mother, I am the primary 
support for my children and I wanted them to have a better 
life," she said.

     Lange was chosen by the Ohio Pharmacists Recovery 
Organization to lead a statewide effort to implement student 
recovery programs in the four colleges of pharmacy in Ohio.  She 
is active in Kappa Epsilon, the national women's professional 
fraternity in pharmacy, and in the APhA Academy of Students of 
Pharmacy, a student organization in the College of Pharmacy.

     "Deborah brings a diversity of life experiences to her 
professional education as a student and single mother, and has 
demonstrated a deep sense of commitment to addictive studies, 
education and recovery programs," said Holly Smith, student 
trustee.  "She is a strong student leader."

     Lange is the daughter of Barbara Kreiser of LaSalle, Ill. 
She hopes to find a career in the field of medicine and is 
scheduled to graduate from Ohio State in June 1996.
