OHIO STATE BOARD APPOINTS 11 TRUSTEES TO MARION CAMPUS

     COLUMBUS -- The Ohio State University Board of Trustees
Wednesday (8/31) appointed 11 people to serve as the first board
of trustees of The Ohio State University at Marion.

     The Marion board, established on July 8, replaces the
Citizens Council, and includes nine area residents, one student,
and one trustee from the entire university.  All appointments
were made retroactive to July 1.

     "These individuals are leaders in their communities and have
outstanding records of service to the university," said President
E. Gordon Gee.  "They will provide a superb beginning for the new
board."

     The new board will work toward developing support for the
campus within the community and will serve as an advocate for the
needs of the campus in local and state government agencies and in
the Legislature.

     "These individuals have had a lengthy relationship with Ohio
State Marion and are leaders in the communities we serve," said
F. Dominic Dottavio, dean and director. "We are proud to have
such reputable individuals working with the university in this
new capacity and anticipate the campus becoming a stronger voice
in the community as a result.  We value the broad range of
expertise these individuals can provide."

     Ron Laipply, immediate past chair of the Citizens Council,
said, "I definitely see the Marion Board as a great and positive
move forward for The Ohio State University." Laipply will serve
on the new board.

     The trustees will be responsible for advising and assisting
the dean and director in administering the campus. Members are
expected to participate in strategic planning and the operating
and capital budgets processes, and coordinate with the board of
the Marion Technical College in areas of common interest.

     Trustees will serve without pay, but may be reimbursed for
expenses.

     The terms of the initial board vary.  Future appointees will
be named to complete three-year terms.

     Appointed to three-year terms were:

     =FE Larry Cline, an agriculturist who farms in northern
Delaware County and a Marlboro Township trustee.  Cline holds a
real estate license with Prospect Realty and serves as a
substitute teacher with the Delaware County schools. Cline is a
former member of the Buckeye Valley Board of Education and the
Delaware County Board of Health.  He currently serves on the
Delaware County Board of Zoning Appeals.  Cline and his wife,
Criss, live in Waldo.

     =FE Ron Hopwood, regional director of public affairs for the
Ohio Region of GTE.  His community activities include the Marion
Rotary Club, the Palace Cultural Arts Association, the Marion
Area Chamber of Commerce's Retention and Expansion committee, the
CAN DO! Corporation, and church.  He and his wife, Marge, reside
in Marion.

     =FE Thomas K. Jenkins, probate and juvenile judge in the
Marion County Court of Common Pleas.  Jenkins is a life-long
resident of the Marion area.  He is active with the Ohio State
Bar, Ohio Judicial College, Ohio Supreme Court Committee on Court
Security, Marion Bar Association, and the Marion Rotary Club.  He
and his wife, Connie, reside in Marion.

     Appointed to two-year terms were:

     =FE Ron Laipply, owner of Laipply's Quickprint and Graphics in
Marion.  Laipply has been active with United Way and is a past
chairman of the Marion Area Chamber of Commerce Board of
Directors.  He is currently involved with the Marion Rotary Club
and his church.  Laipply has served on Ohio State's Marketing
Advisory Committee and the Marion Campus Community Planning
Committee.  He and his wife, Effie, reside in Marion.

     =FE James McGlamery, superintendent of the Upper Sandusky
Exempted Village School District.  McGlamery has worked in
primary and secondary education for 30 years.  He is a member of
the Wyandot County Business Retention and Expansion Committee and
the Upper Sandusky Kiwanis Club.  He resides in Upper Sandusky.

     =FE Elaine Merchant, director of human resources for
Fulfillment Corporation of America.  A former teacher in the
Marion City Schools, Merchant is president of Junior Service
Guild, a board member of the Marion County Department of Human
Resources and an elder at her church.  She and her husband,
Larry, reside in Marion.

     Named to one-year terms were:

     =FE David Kirkton, Marion, superintendent of River Valley
Local School District.  Kirkton, who formerly worked in
administration in the Westlake City, Crestwood and Elyria
schools, is a member of the Marion Rotary Club and other civic
organizations.  Professionally, he is involved with Apple
Computer Corporation's Tri-State Advisory Council for Education,
is assisting the Ohio Department of Education in the development
of the Ohio Proficiency Test in English Composition, and is
active with several state and national educational associations.
His wife, Carole, is a part-time instructor at Ohio State.

     =FE John Mizick, Crawford County, a certified public
accountant.  Mizick founded his own accounting firm in 1972 and
is the director of the Health and Wellness Center in Bucyrus.  He
is a consultant to the Red Cross, Humane Society, and Bucyrus
Scouts and is involved with the Crawford County Development
Board, Crossroads Industrial Park, and the Bucyrus Bratwurst
Festival.

     =FE Fred White, division manager for Ohio Edison in Marion.
White is a member of Marion Rotary Club, the Marion Area Chamber
of Commerce, CANDO, The Marion Bank Board of Directors, United
Way, HealthFirst Board of Directors, and the Residential Home
Association of Marion Board of Directors.  He is a representative
to the Ohio State Alumni Association.  He and his wife, Betty,
reside in Marion.

     Also appointed to the board were:

     =FE Dennis Wasson, a student at The Ohio State University at
Marion.  Wasson is a senior from Marion majoring in agribusiness
and agricultural economics.  Wasson is president of the Marion
Campus Undergraduate Student Government.  He has served the
campus as the student representative on the most recent
dean/director search committee and voluntarily assists with
recruitment activities.

     =FE David L. Brennan, a member of The Ohio State University
Board of Trustees, was named to a three-year term.  Brennan, of
Akron, has been a trustee of Ohio State, where he received a
bachelor's degree in accounting, since 1993.  He also is a
trustee of Case Western Reserve University, where he earned his
law degree.
     Brennan is chief executive officer of The Brenlin Group,
parent holding company of 18 manufacturing companies, which is
being restructured.  An attorney, Brennan has been active in both
education and economic development activities.
     He instituted learning centers in his businesses to increase
employee job skills and has worked with associates to help
revitalize downtown Akron.
     Brennan is chairman of the board of the Western Reserve
Economic Development Council, vice chairman of Akron Tomorrow and
a director of the All-American Soap Box Derby.  In 1992, he was
appointed chair of Gov. George Voinovich's Commission on
Educational Choice.
