Trustees: Name 2 Buildings, Other Spaces

TRUSTEES APPROVE NAMES FOR BUSINESS BUILDINGS, OTHER FACILITIES

COLUMBUS -- The Ohio State University Board of Trustees Friday (11/1)
approved naming two buildings under construction in the Max M. Fisher
College of Business in honor of distinguished alumni of the college who are
also long-time supporters of its programs.  Trustees also approved names for
internal spaces in other areas.

The Schoenbaum Undergraduate Program Building in the Fisher College will
honor Alex and Betty Schoenbaum.  Alex Schoenbaum, a 1939 graduate of the
college, is the founder of Shoney's, a national restaurant chain.  He and
his wife, Betty Schoenbaum, are internationally recognized for their
philanthropic support to the community and education at all levels,
including more than $3 million in gifts to Ohio State.  They and their
friends have contributed $4 million toward the undergraduate program building.

The Schoenbaums have served in many volunteer fund-raising capacities at
Ohio State.  Alex has been a member of The Ohio State University Foundation
Board, the Fisher College of Business Campaign, and chaired the Campaign for
Athletics during the university's 1985-90 campaign.  Betty is a founder of
and donor to the Critical Difference for Women Initiative.

The John K. Pfahl Executive Education Building in the Fisher College of
Business will serve as a memorial to the late Professor Pfahl, former
faculty member and chair of the Department of Finance.  Pfahl, who earned
his M.B.A. and Ph.D. at Ohio State, was president of his own consulting
company and a member of the boards of many companies, including Columbia Gas
of Ohio, The Limited, Nationwide Insurance, and Worthington Foods.

He received numerous awards for philanthropy and service, including Ohio
State's Distinguished Service Award, and the Boy Scouts of America's Eagle
Scout Award.  After his death in 1994, friends and colleagues, along with
the Pfahl family, initiated a fund-raising project to memorialize him.  To
date, nearly $3.5 million has been contributed by family, colleagues,
friends, and
former students.

Trustees also approved naming the following internal university spaces to
honor those whose generosity contributed significantly to the furnishing and
equipping of the facilities.
The donors will be appropriately recognized within the space.

Daniel M. Galbreath Equine Trauma Center
Surgery suite, Barbara Colucci Trueman and family ($250,000)
     Radiology section, Hank and Lynn Snowden ($100,000)
Anesthetic and foal ICU equipment area, Caryl and the late
       Jesse Phillips ($50,000)
Observation area, Ohio Quarter Horse Association ($100,000)

Schottenstein Center
The Ohio State University Athletics Hall of Fame,
       the Kroger Co. ($2.5 million)

Max M. Fisher College of Business
Student lounge, Charles Klatskin in memory of Neil M.
       Klatskin ($500,000).

Food Science and Technology Building
The cereal chemistry laboratory, General Mills Co. 
       ($400,000)
Student meeting room, Hillshire Farms and Kahn's ($25,000)
Faculty and staff conference room, Hillshire Farms and
        Kahn's ($25,000)
