Two Receive Williams Award

WOMEN HONOR COLLEAGUE'S MEMORY WITH NEW AWARD

     COLUMBUS -- The Association of Faculty and Professional 
Women at Ohio State University is remembering the late Mary Ann 
Williams's special kind of leadership.

     Williams, a faculty member who served as president of the 
association, died unexpectedly in 1992.

     The association recently named two long-time members of the 
university community as winners of the first Mary Ann Williams 
Woman's Leadership Awards.

     Margaret "Peg" Hines of WORTHINGTON and Betty Jo Hudson of 
COLUMBUS (43214) instill a sense of confidence in others, promote 
better understanding, bridge differences, and encourage their co-
workers to collaborate and cooperate.

     Hines is associate professor of cell biology and 
neurological anatomy and radiology.  Hudson became special 
assistant to the dean of University College in April, after 
several years as university ombudperson.

     Hines has served as an informal adviser to students, faculty 
and staff since arriving at Ohio State in the 1960s. She "values 
forthrightness and honesty," said Joan Patton, chair of the 
award selection committee. "She inspires us with her never-
ending willingness to lead the fight for equal rights for all 
people."

     Hudson "is an invaluable resource for women, who often have 
nowhere else to go for advice on how to deal with seemingly 
impossible problems," said Patton, senior director of business 
and administration for the College of Medicine and the Office of 
Health Sciences.
