University events cancelled postponed

University will begin new school year on schedule

Many weekend events postponed, but students will be welcomed

In the wake of the terrorist bombings, a number of weekend events have been cancelled or postponed at Ohio State University.  However, the school year will begin on schedule when autumn quarter classes start next Wednesday (9/19).  In addition, student move-in day will happen on schedule on Sunday (9/16) and new students will be welcomed on Monday with the convocation ceremony and giant picnic on the Oval.  Officials are also planning a campus-wide candelight vigil on Wednesday (9/19) evening. University Relations will offer more information later this week about events marking the new school year.

 Here is a list of campus events that have been cancelled or postponed:

Friday, Sept. 14:

  • The annual meeting of the School of Public Health Alumni is moved to Friday, October 19th.  Contact: John Mac Crawford, (614) 293-3919.
  • The program and reception to celebrate the naming of the Michael E. Moritz College of Law at The Ohio State University has been postponed. Contact: Liz Cutler Gates, (614) 292-0283.
  • The Fisher College of Business Dean’s Dinner and Alumni Awards Program has been postponed.  Contact: (614) 292-5579.
  • Athletic events both home and away—postponed or cancelled:

Women's Volleyball: Buckeye Classic, all matches, St. John Arena

Women's Soccer vs. Bowling Green, 7 p.m., Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium

  • The Athletic Department Varsity "O" Women’s and Men’s Hall of Fame events are moved to Oct.19 and 20.
  • College of Engineering Buckeye Reunion Under the Stars is moved to Oct. 19.   Buckeye Reunion is the major engineering alumni event of the year and features annual alumni awards.
  • The "Celebration of Youth -- Faces of Giving" Ohio 4-H Foundation event scheduled for Friday evening, Sept. 14, has been postponed.  Contact: Jeff King, (614) 292-6996.
  • The College of Medicine Alumni Society--Continuing Medical Education is moved to Oct. 19th.  The 7th Annual Zollinger Postgraduate Course in Surgery has been postponed.    Dean's Reception and Dinner will be held as scheduled. Contact: (614) 292-5671.

Saturday, Sept. 15:

Football vs. San Diego State, 12:10 p.m., Ohio Stadium (rescheduled for Oct. 20)

School of Allied Medical Professions: annual tailgate party moved to Oct. 20

College of Dentistry: Board meeting is cancelled; tailgate party is moved to Oct. 20

      Knowlton School of Architecture: Tailgate is moved to Oct. 20

College of Medicine Alumni Society: lecture and tailgate party is moved to Oct. 20.
