University honors faculty, staff and students in military

In honor of Armed Forces Day, The Ohio State University will honor all university staff, students and faculty who are members of the U.S. armed forces, active duty, reserves, National Guard, or military veterans at a luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. today (5/13) at the Faculty Club, 181 S. Oval Drive. Armed Forces Day is actually on May 21, but Ohio State celebrates it earlier to avoid coflict with the greater Columbus Armed Forces day commemoration.

The university has 2,000 staff and faculty veterans, 900 student veterans, and more then 800 students on the GI Bill.

In addition to the luncheon, five student veterans will receive the 2005 Arnold Skurow Student Veterans Award, which carries a $500 prize.

The guest speaker will be Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman. Other speakers will include Barbara Snyder, executive vice president and provost; Bill Hospital, director of veteran’s affairs, and Larry Llewellyn, associate vice president for human resources.
