University purchasing department to host seminar

COLUMBUS – Developing successful business relationships with minority and female suppliers is the focus of a June 27 seminar hosted by The Ohio State University purchasing department. The event will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at The Martin Luther King Arts Complex, 867 Mount Vernon Ave.

“This program is designed to help identify qualified vendors who can provide goods and services required by university departments,” said Director Joanne Markiewicz.

Seminar participants will learn how to acquire state certification and will be taken through a step-by-step explanation of university purchasing procedures. Another aspect will include the importance of networking with community and business colleagues.

Joining Markiewicz in the presentation will be former Ohio State trustee and Columbus attorney Alex Shumate. In addition, Wiley Clodfelder, deputy director for the Ohio Department of Administrative Services, and Columbus State Representative Ray Miller will participate.
Clara Brown, president of Clara I. Brown Interiors, and Todd Wilson, president and CEO of Accelerated Moving and Storage, also will share their professional know-how and success as vendors to Ohio State.

“The system for supplying goods and services to the university can be complex,” Markiewicz said. “Our goal is to assist vendors beyond the initial step of certification by helping them to understand the requirements of university customers.”
