USG sponsors event to create safety awareness on campus

Taking a stand against the recent violence on campus, The Ohio State University’s Undergraduate Student Government (USG) is sponsoring a program called “WAR: The Walk Against Rape,” which is set for midnight on Saturday (10/19). Students, who will meet at 15th Avenue and High Street, will walk around the University District distributing safety materials and crime prevention tips to off-campus residents to educate students about ways to stay safe.

A media availability with Mike Goodman, USG vice president, and Annie Schoening, USG senator, is set for 8 p.m. Saturday on the east side of the Ohio Union near High Street.

In recent months, there have been six reported incidents of sexual assault in the immediate off-campus area at Ohio State.

In addition to students, participants include Mayor Michael Coleman, representatives from the Columbus Division of Police and members of Ohio State community.

The WAR is the culminating effort in a series of safety initiatives led by USG. Other programs have included a Safety Awareness Week and a literature drop to off-campus residents.
