Video: Modern movie musicals inspire halftime show

The Ohio State University Marching Band dipped into some recent Hollywood hits for inspiration at halftime during the football game against Miami University.

The marching band performed “The Greatest Show” and “This is Me” from Hugh Jackman’s “The Greatest Showman,” music from “Mary Poppins Returns” and hits from the Los Angeles-inspired musical “La La Land.” The musicians also performed their version of the Lady Gaga/Bradley Cooper duet “Shallow” from “A Star Is Born.”

The drill design from band director Christopher Hoch included formations of a trapeze artist swinging through the air and a man riding on an elephant, both inspired by “The Greatest Showman.” The band also performed a display of Mary Poppins landing on the ground with an umbrella and dancers performing on top of a car in a nod to “La La Land.”

The i-dotters this week were West Liberty native and geographic systems major Lindsay Hostetler and Anna Hurley, a city and regional planning major from Delaware.

Fans of the marching band have the opportunity to vote on social media for their favorite halftime formation after each new performance. Follow @TBDBITL on Twitter to vote on Monday mornings.
