Website lists ‘Buckeye Programs for Youth’

COLUMBUS – Parents, have you ever wondered what activities and programs are available at Ohio State for your school-age children? Are you looking for a “one-stop-shop” that consolidates all of OSU’s youth offerings?

Buckeye Programs for Youth http://www.osu.edu/p12 is a new, web-based resource that organizes this information into a single, comprehensive and easily accessible location.

Developed in response to parent requests for easy access to information about youth programs, this resource provides information on OSU-affiliated activities such as workshops, summer camps, and presentations, for children in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade that take place at locations outside their schools throughout central Ohio.

The programs included in this resource encompass a wide variety of subject areas such as art, athletics, and science. Users can search by grade level or subject areas, list all summer programs, or view all available programs. Currently, there are 117 programs and projects for youth listed.

Buckeye Programs for Youth is part of the more comprehensive P-12 Project/Outreach and Engagement database that was created in 2001. The database contains information on over 500 Ohio State University outreach activities separated into three broad categories: Health & Safety, Economic Development, and P-12/Education related activities. Both the larger database and the link to Buckeye Programs for Youth can be found at the P-12 Project web site at http://www.osu.edu/p12.

The P-12 Project’s overall mission is to assist in the improvement of Ohio’s schools, particularly in districts that serve children and youths from lower socio-economic families. The P-12/ O&E database and the Buckeye Programs for Youth component are both efforts of P-12’s goal to provide a single point of contact for those interested in P-12/OSU outreach activities.
