Works of internationally renowned cartoonist to be displayed

Sixty original works of internationally renowned freelance cartoonist Arnold Roth will be on display at The Ohio State University through May 17 to document the entire range of his half-century career.

Roth will take part in a presentation about his career at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday (3/17) at the Wexner Center Film/Video Theatre, 1871 N. High St.

The “Arnold Roth: Free Lance” exhibition, open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, will be free and open to the public at Ohio State’s Cartoon Research Library, 27 W. 17th Ave. Mall, room 023L Wexner.

During his freelance career, Roth has drawn magazine cartoons, humorous illustrations, syndicated comic strips, political and sports cartoons, record album and book jacket illustrations, cartoon advertisements and animation. He has received numerous awards during his career, including the Reuben Award as Cartoonist of the Year from the National Cartoonists Society.

Currently, Roth is serving as the art director of the Journal for Blacks in Higher Education.
Among the highlights of his career, Roth created a color Sunday comic strip for the New York Herald Tribune Syndicate titled “Poor Arnold’s Almanac,” which lasted for two years until it was revived in 1989-1990 for Creater’s Syndicate as a daily and a Sunday feature. His work has been featured in more than 50 publications, including The New York Times, Newsweek, Rolling Stone, the Saturday Evening Post and Sports Illustrated.
