Young Scholars to Visit Campus

           YOUNG SCHOLARS AND PARENTS TO VISIT CAMPUS

     Some 120 12th graders and their parents are expected to
attend The Ohio State University's Young Scholars Program College
Visitation Days next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (11/2-4).
Young Scholars and their parents will have an opportunity to
learn about the programs and facilities available at Ohio State.
The daily schedule includes an information fair in the morning
and afternoon visits to various colleges to explore specific
major programs.

     Now in its fifth year the Young Scholars Program is Ohio
State's effort to increase the number of Black, Hispanic and
other underrepresented minority youth from low-income families
who are interested in and preparing to attend four year colleges
and universities.  The program provides year-round academic,
personal and skill development opportunities.  There are
approximately 1,960 students in grades 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12
participating from nine major Ohio cities.  Young Scholars are
guaranteed admission to Ohio State, along with financial aid, if
they successfully complete the program through high school
graduation in a college preparatory curriculum.

Schedule:
10 a.m.     -- Arrival, Frank W. Hale Jr. Black Cultural Center
10:45 a.m.  -- Welcome, James Bishop, director of Young Scholars
11 to noon  -- Information Fair
12 to 1 p.m.-- Lunch
1-3 p.m.    -- Visits to academic units, according to students'
               proposed college major
3 p.m.      -- Remarks by LeRoy Pernell, vice provost for
               minority affairs, Ohio Union South Terrace
               Followed by question and answer session
4 p.m.         Departure

Nov. 2 -- Young Scholars from Dayton and Cincinnati
Nov. 3 -- Young Scholars from Cleveland, Akron and Canton
Nov. 4 -- Young Scholars from Columbus, Toledo and Youngstown
