Experts on Mad Cow Disease to speak at College of Veterinary Medicine

The College of Veterinary Medicine is sponsoring a seminar titled “Tracking Mad Cows: An Update on the Status and Implications of Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) in North America” from 1 to 3 p.m. on Tuesday (3/23), at the Wexner Auditorium in the Veterinary Medicine Academic Building, 1900 Coffey Rd.

Dr. William Hueston, professor and director of the University of Minnesota Center for Animal Health and Food Safety, will discuss the investigation of both the U.S. and Canadian BSE cases. Dr. Linda Detweiler, former USDA advisor on scrapie and BSE, will talk about national and international policy implications of the cases.

At approximately 2 p.m., there will be a panel discussion with public questions and answers, moderated by Dr. William Shulaw, professor of Veterinary Preventive Medicine and an Ohio State expert on BSE.
