Former ‘Lawyer of the Year’ is the Humanities Baccalaureate speaker

Frank A. Ray, listed in The Best Lawyers in America and was designated the 1999 “Lawyer of the Year” by Ohio Lawyers Weekly, is the featured speaker at the 10th annual College of Humanities Baccalaureate. The event is set for 3:30 p.m. on Saturday (6/12) in the Fawcett Center, 2400 Olentangy River Road.

Ray, an Ohio State alumnus, has achieved a national reputation for advocacy in “complex litigation.” Many of his clients’ lawsuits have delivered legal precedents that have had an impact upon people’s civil rights and upon the safety of consumer products.

Appointed by U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice William Rehnquist, Ray serves on the Board of Editors of the Federal Judicial Center’s “Manual on Complex Litigation.”
Ray, who earned his law degree in 1973, began his career as a prosecutor for Franklin County. He was appointed director of the Economic Crime Project for the U.S. Department of Justice in 1975 and returned to Columbus as chief civil counsel for Franklin County in 1977. Since 1979, Ray has worked in private practice. Currently, he runs his own law firm, Frank A. Ray Co., L.P.A.

In addition, Humanities alumni Susan E. Brown and Charles H. Rowell will receive the Humanities Alumni Society Alumni Awards of Distinction.
