Dinner in a cone, s’mores on a stick and local brewers added to game day menu

When fans of The Ohio State University football team pour into  Ohio Stadium for the first home game of the 2017 season, they will have some tasty decisions to make at the concession stands.

Levy Restaurants announced some of their new food options this week in advance of the Saturday night showdown against Oklahoma. The new menu items join fan favorites like hot dogs and burgers to improve the game day experience.

The most distinctive new option might be Sticks and Cones, which offers some truly mobile meals.

“What you have is edible bread cones. We’ve got them stuffed with a pasta and meatball as well as an Italian grinder concept,” said Molly Kurth, vice president for hospitality and strategy, Levy Restaurants. “So no mess and nothing to carry around that you’re trying to get rid of.”

New taco bowls available at Ohio Stadium

Sticks and Cones has a dessert offering as well: waffle cones filled with cookie dough that is eggless and therefore safe to eat. The stand is also selling s’mores on a stick.

“So we torch the marshmallows and cover them in chocolate and graham cracker crumbs to enjoy as a sweet treat at the game,” Kurth said.

Sticks and Cones can be found in section 18C as well as the south B Deck.

A change that will really stand out to Buckeye fans is the new popcorn boxes. They have a new look highlighting the Block O in a slick scarlet and gray package.

“We know how much everyone loves popcorn. It’s a total game day favorite,” Kurth said. “So we branded the box this year so you’re going to see that all over the stadium.”

Levy is offering a new twist on chicken with a cold fried chicken box.

“So who doesn’t love cold fried chicken, picnic style?” Kurth said. “You’ll have the option of a bone-in chicken with coleslaw or chicken tenders and your choice of dipping sauces.”

New local beers for sale

A new concession stand called Buckeye Cantina will be based in A Deck and serving up taco bowls stuffed with beef, chicken or vegetables and nachos topped with meat or vegetarian options.

Buckeye fans can support local business as well: Darista Dips hummus flavors and JP Salsa are two of the Columbus-based options available this year. The Darista hummus has the benefit of being gluten free as well.

The beer selection at Ohio Stadium will feature some new local flavors. Hilltop Lager from Four String Brewing Company, Columbus Brewing Company’s best-selling IPA, Great Lakes Brewing Company’s Turntable Pils and Rhinegeist Bubbles Rose Ale are added to the beer offerings. And a favorite from last year returns.

“Land-Grant Brewing Company did their Skull Session lager for the Michigan game. This year they are pulling it out for the whole football season,” said Kurth. “So we’re going to feature it all year.”
