Statement from President Michael V. Drake on the Pittsburgh synagogue shootings
On behalf of The Ohio State University, Brenda and I want to express our horror and sadness following the tragic loss of life at Tree of Life synagogue. Our deepest sympathies go to the family and friends of the victims as well as to the people of Pittsburgh, the entire Jewish community and all people of goodwill and decency everywhere.
This kind of hate and violence must not be tolerated — here at Ohio State, on our nation’s campuses or anywhere in our country. At times such as these, and they have become far too common, we recommit ourselves to the values we hold dear. These include compassion, tolerance and a fundamental dedication to inclusive excellence that uplifts our society.
These are not just words. They manifest in our actions and demonstrations of civility every day. We will join together at 6 p.m. tomorrow, October 30, for a vigil hosted by Ohio State Hillel to share our prayers, express our grief and come together as members of an ever-inclusive and welcoming community.
